Drei Waldwelde, Hang ähnliche Klangskulpturen auf dem Klangweg Toggenburg

Waldweld

2004, Klassik-Edition, Kay Rauber (CH)

The Waldweld is an idiophone, an instrument that produces sound by vibrating as a whole. It requires no strings or membranes. Due to their simple construction, idiophones are among the earliest instruments in human history, comparable to gongs or hangs.

The three weatherproof idiophones in the forest are variants of the 'Weld Drums' developed by musician Kay Rauber. When the tongues are struck one after the other with the hands or fingers, the vibrations are transmitted to the entire sound body. A soundscape rich in overtones is created.

About the artist

Percussionist Kay Rauber became known for his powerful shows as one half of the drumming duo Bubble Beatz. The duo used every conceivable material as drums. Since 2015, Kay Rauber has been mainly focusing on handpans and Rav Vast. His knowledge of world rhythms serves as his foundation.
