Drei Klangpilze aus Metall mitten im Wald des Toggenburger Klangweg

Klangpilz

2004, Klassik-Edition, Matthias Wickl (CH)

In the middle of the grasses and bushes are a special kind of mushroom: they sound when you strike them. With the help of the sound mushrooms, you can find out something about the extraordinary abilities of your hearing.

With two ears, humans and animals hear 'stereo', as the brain processes sound from two sources. This allows you to orientate yourself in space and localise sounds. If a sound reaches the right ear faster than the left, your brain knows that the sound is coming from the right! Humans are able to recognise tiny temporal deviations of up to 10 microseconds (that's 0.000001 seconds).
