The Wildhaus Oberdorf chairlift takes its guests to the Toggenburg Sound Path or back down into the valley. During the ascent, the sound ride introduces the floating guests to the sound trail. It offers a first journey into the land of listening and opens the ears to what can be experienced on the sound trail.
If you take the Wildhaus Oberdorf chairlift back down to the valley, the sound ride gives you the opportunity to listen again to what you have experienced and gently return to your own everyday soundscape.
“Scan the QR code and follow the voice's instructions”
The sound rides for the ascent and descent are different. Activated by scanning a corresponding QR code at the cable car stations, visitors can listen to sounds that come from the region but seem to have fallen out of time or place. These sounds mix with the current sounds of the environment, creating a sense of wondrous amazement: Is what we hear real or a recording?
This effect is made possible by elaborate audio recordings in a 360° perspective, which were designed by the artists of Idee und Klang Audio Design in Basel to create a very unique auditory world. An inner voice adds to this – putting thoughts and amazement into words or asking questions.
About the artist
The idea and concept, as well as the recording and production of the sound ride, are the result of a collaboration between sound designers Simon Hauswirth, Jascha Dormann and Ramon De Marco – employees and the ownesr of Idee und Klang Audio Design in Basel. Idee und Klang Audio Design has won numerous international prizes, including the International Sound Award, for its work at the interface between sound art, interaction design, sound design and acoustics. The team realizes elaborate media installations worldwide and creates extraordinary spatial sound experiences and holistic sound environments. Berlin-based radio journalist Bettina Mittelstraß contributed words and language to the sound ride. She also designs and realizes audio exhibitions for indoor and outdoor use and regularly works with Idee und Klang Audio Design on projects.
