Klangskulptur Schellenbaum vor dem Bergpanorama des Alpstein Gebirge

Schellenbaum

2004, Klassik-Edition, Patrick Solér, Carmen Langenegger (CH)

One of the landmarks along the Toggenburg Sound Trail is the bell tree. It sits enthroned high above an alp and reflects the sound of the bells as they echo up the hillside from the grazing cows in summer. It also reflects the traditional art of bell-forging, which is still practised in the valley.

While the bells on the cows' necks are ringing, you can use the bell tree to tune into the sound world of the Toggenburg mountain world Listen to the symphony of the summer alp – and then slowly pull the ropes. This is how you move the bells attached to the tree. Now you can improvise freely to the sounds that echo up to you from the alp. And listen to how it responds to your melody.
